No human is disposable.

The Restore Justice Foundation works to make Illinois a safer and more compassionate state by replacing the ineffective, extreme sentencing policies of the past with evidence-based laws that allow families and communities to heal.

Restore Justice advances legislative change, trains advocates, and conducts research with a focus on rolling back the punitive policies of the past and replacing them with smart and safe policies for the future. We seek to support, empower, and promote healing and hope for people who are incarcerated, their loved ones, and their communities. Restore Justice also works to end extreme sentences for children and youth in Illinois and replace them with compassionate, common-sense policies that bring people home sooner and make communities safer.

Every year, Restore Justice holds an event called, “Loved Ones Holiday Card Signing,” where previously incarcerated individuals, and the friends and family of currently incarcerated individuals come together to sign holiday cards to send to their loved ones currently in prison. The cards are signed by many people, with encouraging messages and warm holiday wishes. I was hired to take photos of the event as well as photos of each of the families to include in the card that they are sending to their loved ones on the inside.
