Silly Putty

Using photography to transform one thing into another is my favorite things to do. A photograph can show you exactly what was happening the moment the photo was taken, yet tell you nothing. The rest is up to the viewer.

My intention is for my photographs to ask the viewer, “What do you see? What do you make of it? Can you work out what is it you’re looking at?”

This series spawned from my investigation and study of light within the studio. I was inspired by Edward Weston’s Pepper No. 30, or more particularly, the attention to light, and its ability to change the feeling of an inanimate object.

In this series, 0.45 ounces of silver Silly Puddy was used to create biomorphic forms that shift over time in this photographic series.
